Q: What have you been doing this week?
JASMINE: Basically, I go to school. After I go to school, I might hang out, socialize with my friends at Burger King or McDonald’s.
JASMINE: First I study and then I hang with my friends and socialize.
JASMINE: On weekends I might go to the movies, go to a party, get my hair did, or go to the nail shop.
Q: What did you do last weekend?
JASMINE: I went to a party, and I watched movies on TV every day.
Q: What are you doing in school this week?
JASMINE: I’m studying biology. We’re studying the ecosystem.
JASMINE: I don’t like biology too much. Actually, I hate it. It’s my least favorite class.
Q: What classes do you like?
JASMINE: I like dance—that’s my favorite subject—and math.
JASMINE: I have to do a lot of research in dance.
Q: Dance sounds unusual. Is it a regular subject?
JASMINE: Dance is like any other subject. It’s like physical education.
JASMINE: We study all kinds of dance: ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop.
JASMINE: We do it, and we study about it.
JASMINE: I have to do my research on it every day.
JASMINE: My teacher gives us a famous dancer like Alvin Ailey.
JASMINE: He’s dead now, but he founded a famous dance company.
JASMINE: I get on the computer and do research on him and his dance company.
JASMINE: We have questions like, “What kind of positioning do they use?”; “What kind of energy do they use?”
Q: Do you like living in San Francisco?
JASMINE: Actually, I used to live in San Francisco, but I moved to Oakland a year ago.
JASMINE: San Francisco is a great city, but it’s very large.
JASMINE: You have to know your way.
JASMINE: In Oakland, well you have to avoid some parts of Oakland, but there is less drama in Oakland.
JASMINE: You feel free in Oakland.
Q: Is there anything you want to say to kids in other countries?
JASMINE: Do you want to visit San Francisco?
JASMINE: You should think about it, because it’s a good city.

JASMINE: 직접 춤을 추기도 하고, 춤에 관해서 공부하기도 해요.
JASMINE: 매일 그것에 관한 조사를 해야 해요.
JASMINE: 선생님은 Alvin Ailey 같은 유명한 무용가를 조사 대상으로 내주세요.
JASMINE: 그는 지금은 세상을 떠났지만, 유명한 무용단을 창립했어요.

JASMINE: Oakland에서는 피해야 할 지역도 있지만, 골치 아픈 일은 Oakland가 더 적어요.
JASMINE: Oakland에서는 좀 더 자유로운 느낌이 들어요.
